About
Established in 1934
Zumbro Valley Medical Society (ZVMS) is a nonprofit professional membership organization serving 3,000 physicians and physicians in training in Dodge, Fillmore, Houston, and Olmsted Counties. ZVMS promotes the health and health care of communities in Southeast Minnesota through advocacy, service, and education.
We are a component medical society of the Minnesota Medical Association (MMA). We provide local resources and services to our joint members. In addition, ZVMS appoints members to serve on MMA committees and its Policy Council. (See here for ZVMS representatives to the MMA.)
ZVMS members are also involved at the state level and within their various specialties at the American Medical Association (AMA) to effect change at the national level.
Our mission
We are a non-profit professional membership organization serving current and future physicians and promoting the health and health care of communities in Southeast Minnesota
We are committed to:
- A broad definition of health
- Community service
- Being compassionate
- Learning and evolving
- Being responsive to our members and communities
- Organizational sustainability
We strive to:
Asking: Who is left out? What can we do to include them?
Asking: How do we know this is a need? Whose need? What can we do to be sure?
Asking: Is this the best use of our funds? Are we achieving the most value possible with our funds?
Asking: What are we doing to eliminate health disparities? Do our programs affect all populations and individuals equally? Should they, or are there certain circumstances to consider?
Asking: Are we stewarding and enjoying the natural resources around us? How do our environmental actions in the Zumbro Valley affect the globe? Are we staying up to date on the changing global environmental landscape?
Asking: What activities are we sponsoring that allow our members respite from their professional lives? Are our members practicing self-care and avoiding burnout? How are we ensuring that our active members are not spreading themselves too thin?
