ZVMS Offers Free Narcan/Naloxone Trainings

In partnership with the Steve Rummler HOPE Network,
ZVMS will offer two free trainings on Narcan/naloxone to help prevent overdose deaths.

The trainings will be held on:

November 11, 7-8 pm
Christ United Methodist Church
400 5th Avenue SW, Rochester, MN 55902

and on

November 12, 9-10 am
Salvation Army Corps Community Center
20 1st Ave NE, Rochester, MN 55906

Please note that masks are required at both trainings.

In the training, participants will learn:

  • what naloxone/Narcan is
  • how it works when administered to an individual who has overdosed
  • how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose
  • when to give naloxone to a person who has overdosed

Upon completion of the one-hour training,
participants will have the opportunity to receive an overdose prevention kit,
with injectable naloxone.

MMA Physician Forum:

Uncertainty in Medicine
Emerging Ideas and Understanding

(in partnership with the University of Minnesota)

During this forum, the presenters will discuss how uncertainty affects clinicians and patients and how suboptimal responses to uncertainty can lead to errors, overutilization, and lack of trust between patients and their care teams.

MMA Physician Forum:

Cultivating Mindfulness and Resilience:
Everyday Tips and Approaches 

April 27

This presentation will focus on cultivating mindfulness as a tool for enhancing resilience. Research has demonstrated that practicing mindfulness can broaden our perspective and down regulate the stress response, allowing us to be with life’s inevitable challenges more resourcefully and compassionately.  Participants will be guided through an experiential mindfulness meditation and leave the session with practical tips for practicing mindfulness and in their daily lives. 

Learning Objectives:

    • Gain understanding of what mindfulness is and isn’t, and the research supporting the practice of mindfulness as tool to reduce stress and enhance resilience.
    • Learn how to apply “in-the-moment” practical mindfulness tips and approaches throughout one’s daily activities. 
    • Practice and experience a short mindfulness meditation.

Presenter:  Mariann Johnson, Wellbeing and Mindfulness Instructor for the University of Minnesota’s Earl E. Bakken Center for Spirituality & Healing.
