Keynote Address: Dr. Barney Graham
The recently retired Dr. Graham served as deputy director of the Vaccine Research Center within the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He was the chief architect of the first COVID-19 vaccines. He was named a 2021 Hero of the Year by Time magazine for his work developing Moderna’s groundbreaking COVID-19 vaccine.
“Rapid COVID-19 Vaccine Development and the Future of Pandemic Preparedness”
Learning Objectives:
1. To gain a better understanding of how technology advances have changed the field of vaccinology
2. To understand the meaning of structure-based vaccine design
3. To understand how events during COVID-19 will inform future vaccine development programs and pandemic preparedness

At the ZVMS Annual meeting on January 31, we presented the following awards for 2022:
Edward Drewry Henderson Leadership Award to Rozalina G. McCoy, MD, MS, for her dedication to health equity through her creation of and commitment to the Community Paramedicine program
Community Service Award to the Olmsted County Housing Stability Team for their service to our unhoused neighbors and outstanding collaboration with the ZVMS Street Medicine Initiative
Outstanding Young Physician Award to Jamie Felzer, MD, MPH, for her contributions to the ZVMS Street Medicine Initiative
Outstanding Young Leader Award to Luqman Ellythy, Anjie Ge, Zhenya Knyazhanskaya, and Jessica Trinh, for their contributions to the ZVMS Street Medicine Initiative, and Steven Callori and Elizabeth Farkouh for their contributions to the ZVMS Legislative Committee
Outstanding Alliance Member Award to Lynne Hemann for her leadership and dedicated service to the Alliance and her commitment to improving the health of our community
Presidential Award to Thomas C. Kingsley, MD, MPH, for his dedication to the mission and members of ZVMS and his efforts to improve the health of SE Minnesotans

ZVMS Community Service Award 2021
ZVMS awarded the Community Service Award for 2021 to The Landing MN staff and volunteers for their dedication and commitment to providing assistance, guidance, and support to those facing homelessness within the Rochester community.

E. Drewry Henderson Award 2021
ZVMS presented the E. Drewry Henderson Award to Mark Wieland, MD, MPH, for his clinical excellence, dedication to equity in healthcare, and contributions to medical education.

Special Recognition Award 2021
ZVMS presented a Special Recognition Award to medical student Emily Sadecki for her numerous contributions to ZVMS and local communities.

Outstanding Young Leader Award 2021
ZVMS presented Outstanding Young Leader Awards to three medical students — Yong-hun Kim, Jeffrey Woods, and Tatsumi Yanaba — for their leadership and commitment to the inaugural Street Medicine Selective.

Presidential Award 2021
ZVMS presented the Presidential Award for 2021 to Dionne Hart, MD, and Ashok Patel, MD, upon completion of their six years of service as ZVMS Co-Presidents.

Outstanding Alliance Member Award 2021
ZVMS presented the Outstanding Alliance Members Award for 2021 to Lyn D. Smith for her many years of steadfast commitment and dynamic leadership of the Start Smart reading program.

Tribute to Eric Dick
Janet Silversmith, CEO of the Minnesota Medical Association (MMA), joined the ZVMS annual meeting, to lead a tribute for Eric Dick, the MMA’s Manager of State Legislative Affairs, who passed away over the New Year’s Eve weekend.
