ZVMS offers free naloxone trainings to medical students and community members

In November 2021, in partnership with the Steve Rummler HOPE Network, ZVMS offered three free trainings to medical students and community members on administering Narcan/naloxone to help reverse opioid overdoses.

Forty-four first- and second- year medical students received training at the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine.

In the evening of November 11 at the Christ United Methodist Church and the morning of November 12 at the Rochester Salvation Army, a total of 30 community members received training, including the Rochester Downtown Alliance Ambassadors.

In the trainings, participants learned: what naloxone/Narcan is; how it works when administered to an individual who has overdosed; how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose; and when to give naloxone to a person who has overdosed.

Upon completion of the one-hour training, participants received an overdose prevention kit, with injectable naloxone.

We thank KTTC for helping to promote the trainings for community members. Watch the news story here.
